iVestor Glossary

A
Account Closure
Ending your relationship with iVestor. Before closing, you need to ensure your balance is zero and there are no pending transactions or disputes.
Account Statement
A summary of your account activity for a period of time, including transfers, card payments, withdrawals and fees. iVestor provides monthly statements by email or in the app.
Apple Pay
A mobile payment service by Apple that lets you pay in stores, apps and on websites using your iPhone, Apple Watch or other Apple devices instead of your physical card.
ATM (Automated Teller Machine)
A self-service machine that allows you to withdraw cash, check your balance and sometimes deposit cash into your iVestor account.
Available Balance
The amount of money currently accessible for you to spend, withdraw or transfer from your iVestor account, after any pending transactions are taken into account.
B
Beneficiary Bank
The bank that receives a transfer. When you top up your iVestor account by bank transfer, Emirates NBD is the beneficiary bank.
Broker
A licensed financial institution that executes buy and sell orders for securities on your behalf. iVestor is not a broker; it works with partner brokers such as xCube and BHM Capital.
C
Card Replacement
Issuing a new iVestor card to replace a lost, stolen, damaged or expired card.
Corporate Action
Any event initiated by a listed company that affects its shareholders, such as dividends, bonus shares, stock splits, mergers or IPOs.
CSD (Central Securities Depository)
A central institution that holds securities (like shares) and manages ownership records and settlement. Shares held in CSD can be transferred to a broker for trading.
Currency Conversion
The process of changing one currency to another when you pay or withdraw in a foreign currency. VISA exchange rates and applicable fees are used for these conversions.
D
DFM (Dubai Financial Market)
The stock exchange where many UAE companies are listed and traded. iVestor is linked to DFM to view your portfolio, corporate actions and dividends.
Dividends
Payments made by a company to its shareholders, usually from profits. Participating companies on DFM can choose to distribute dividends directly to your iVestor account.
E
E-commerce Transaction
A card payment made online, such as on a website or in a mobile app.
Exchange Rate
The rate at which one currency is exchanged for another when you use your iVestor card abroad or in a foreign currency.
F
Fees and Charges
The costs associated with using certain services, such as international transfers, ATM withdrawals at non-Emirates NBD ATMs, or extra virtual cards. iVestor lists all standard fees in the Fees section.
I
IBAN (International Bank Account Number)
A standard international number used to identify your bank account for transfers. Your iVestor account has an IBAN that you can use to receive funds from other banks.
Identity Verification (KYC)
“Know Your Customer.” The process of confirming your identity using documents such as Emirates ID or passport, as required by law. This helps prevent fraud and unauthorised use of your account.
IPO (Initial Public Offering)
The first time a company offers its shares to the public on a stock exchange. You can use iVestor to subscribe to eligible IPOs listed on DFM.
L
Limit Order
A type of order where you set the price at which you want to buy or sell a stock. The order will only be executed if the market reaches your chosen price or better.
M
Margin Account
A trading account that allows you to borrow money from the broker to trade larger amounts. If your broker account becomes a margin account, some iVestor trading features may be restricted.
Market Order
An order to buy or sell a stock at the best available current market price.
Market Watch
A feature in the app that lets you view live prices, indices and market movements for securities listed on DFM.
O
OTP (One-Time Password)
A single-use code sent to your registered mobile number or email to confirm actions such as login, payments or changes to your security settings.
P
PIN (Personal Identification Number)
The four-digit code you use to authorise ATM withdrawals or POS payments. You can change your PIN in the iVestor app.
Point of Sale (POS)
The terminal used by merchants to accept card payments in-store. The iVestor card supports chip, swipe and contactless (tap) payments at POS terminals.
Portfolio
The collection of all your investments in listed securities, such as stocks, as seen in your iVestor app. It shows holdings, quantities, values and performance.
Prepaid Card
A card that you load with money before spending. The iVestor card is a prepaid debit card, not a credit card.
Primary Card
Your main physical iVestor card that is linked to your account. Some actions, such as receiving iVestor-to-iVestor transfers, require a primary card.
R
Round-up (Saving Goals)
A feature that rounds your POS purchases up to the nearest whole amount and automatically sends the difference to your saving goal.
S
Salary Transfer
A bank transfer made by an employer to pay wages. iVestor is not designed to receive salary transfers, and these transactions will be rejected.
Saving Goal
A dedicated target for saving money, such as for travel, education or emergencies. You can set a target amount and date, and fund it through automatic transfers, round-ups and dividends.
Split Bill
A feature that allows you to divide a transaction amount between several people. Each participant receives a request to pay their share through iVestor.
Statement
A document showing your transactions and balances during a given period. iVestor provides monthly account statements electronically.
T
Tap to Pay (Contactless)
Paying by holding your iVestor card or device close to a POS terminal that supports contactless payments. For security, the first transaction may require inserting or swiping the card.
Trading Fund Account
A dedicated account used for trading through iVestor. You can transfer money from your iVestor card into this account and use it to place trades with the partner broker.
Transfer Limit
The maximum amount you can transfer in a set period (for example, per day). iVestor has daily limits for iVestor-to-iVestor transfers, bank transfers and top-ups to brokers.
V
Virtual Card
A digital version of your card used for online or remote payments. It has its own card number, expiry date and CVV, and can be funded from your primary iVestor card.
VISA
The global payment network that processes transactions made with your iVestor card at ATMs, POS terminals and online.
W
Wallet (iVestor Wallet Tab)
The section in the iVestor app that shows your overall financial position, including your iVestor card balance, Trading Fund account, saving goals, portfolio and IPO subscriptions.
Watchlist
A custom list of stocks you choose to monitor. You can add and organise securities to track their prices and movements easily.
